The Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition, Thru the Lens: Photographic Art from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, curated by Billie Milam Weisman.
The exhibition presents early black and white photos by Robert Rauschenberg and Helmut Newton; slit-scan photography by Mark Jay Johnson; photography in the context of cinema by Melanie Pullen; edited and combined images from a film by John Baldessari; collaged photo by David Hockney; self-manipulation portraits by Orlan; celebrity portraits hand colored by Russian artists; sculptures made from multiple images by Srdjan Loncar; an exploration of art and technology through photography by Tim Berresheim; Dawn DeDeaux's vibrant giclee prints; photographs, as working drawings employed by Paul Rusconi used to break apart light and shadow; and works by Andy Warhol bridges the gap between painting and photography by the mechanical reproduction of photographic images as paintings. This exhibit features over three dozen artists who explore various forms and methods of the photographic process.
